Installing Tuners

This article will teach you how to install new tuners on your acoustic or electric guitar. First, you will need the following:

  • New Tuners that match your headstock layout (i.e. 3x3, 6 in-line, etc)
  • A Screwgun/Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Drill bits for mounting screws & if you have to drill out the post holes for the new tuners
  • Tape (Scotch tape or masking tape is fine)
  • End Wrench or socket

Follow these steps:

01Remove the old tuners by unscrewing the mounting screw on the back of the headstock and removing the nut on the front of the headstock.

02Test the new tuners to see if the posts fit into the same hole. If needed, drill them out to make the new posts fit. Be careful to make sure the hole is perfectly perpendicular to the headstock.

03Determine how you would like the tuners positioned, mark where you need the holes. There might also be a stabilizing post that will also need to be drilled.

04After you have marked the holes determine how deep they need to be by holding the provided mounting screw to the drill bit and fold a small piece of tape around the drill bit so you know when to stop drilling.

05Drill out the holes and mount the tuners.
